Are your lunchtimes a little same same? Why not join us for a little midday sewing (in the warm and dry). Every Wednesday lunchtime we settle down with a different project like the silk fish below, and enjoy some creativity. Just come and join us, no booking required.
Where? Crafty Baba, 32 St Peters Street, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP1 1XB
When? 12.15-1pm every Wednesday
How much? £4 per person including materials
One thing lacking in Suffolk (only one for a blog should be brief) is a really good place to buy fabric and haberdashery, by which i mean somewhere with a mixture of good quality with bargains with fun fabrics and a really excellent range of haberdashery. It is with this in mind we are holding our first Great London Sewing Crawl to plug the gap.
You are cordially invited to board the sewing bus and come on a magical mystery tour of my favourite London haunts. Those places that sell fabric for 50p a metre and where they pile the ribbons high. We will also be stepping out into some of the more discerning emporiums before finishing with a cheeky drink by the Thames to compare bargains before heading home.
Want to come with? It’s £25 for a seat on the bus and no obligation to buy. Strictly no little people, this is an adult only affair. Sign up here
Just 15 seats available.
Crafty Baba is a Suffolk based crafts school offering a range of courses to inspire and instil confidence. We have a variety of courses from Beginners to Advanced Sewing evening classes to more specialised courses like curtain making, real nappy making or learning to crochet granny squares.
More traditional skills like knitting aren’t neglected and are available as a one-day weekend class.
Crafty Baba was begun in 2012 by Zoe Woods following the birth of her daughter. Zoe had been crafting since her childhood but after a series of City & Guild qualifications, felt it was time to turn her hand to teaching. She has since been joined by Cybele de Jong teaching crochet, and Howard Snow and his green woodworking skills.
New for 2013 are green woodworking courses in rural Suffolk. We start off by sourcing green timber and slowly fashioning it into a stool on our weekend course, or a Windsor chair in the week-long class.
Classes can be booked online at www.craftybaba.co.uk
or by calling us on 01473 232 791. We look forward to giving you a warm welcome!
This is where I like to work, I’m blessed with an awesome space with natural light on three walls and from above through skylights. I also have a fab cupboard to keep all my craft bits (although they have wandered over the house, into my daughter’s room and under my bed….
This is also where I teach (without the washing). It’s a lovely environment and I warmly welcome new students in!
So it’s Autumn and the leaves are all over my car. It’s days like these that I bundle my daughter out of the house, wrapped in as many clothes as I can get her to wear and make a leaf wreath.
This is a trick I picked up on a trip to Russia; families go out with a piece of wire (a sacrificed coat hanger perhaps?) and thread leaves onto it.
This serves a triple purpose (possibly more). It amuses the little people for a while, encourages the leaves to stay on my car no longer and it makes something nice to hang on the door. Oh and people think you’re super talented!
Now when the rain stops, we might venture outside…..
So we all love a bargain right? Me included. Well fabric just seems to be getting more and more expensive lately, especially locally, so we’re taking advantage of some bulk discounts and a bit of sweet talking and holding a one-day fabric sale in Ipswich.
We have around fifty gorgeous fabrics for sale as well as 1,500 pretty buttons, ribbons and other bits and pieces we thought might be useful (threads, that kind of thing). We have Liberty prints and jerseys, Egyptian cotton and muslin, in short, a bit of everything and all at thrifty prices.
If you would like to come, leave your details via our website and grab a free bag of pretty buttons http://www.craftybaba.co.uk/#/fabric-notion-sales/4568820449 (leaving your details helps us know how many people to expect!).
Looking forward to seeing you.
A review of our recent nappy making day-next one is scheduled for November in Ipswich.
I made this! (Said with lots of excitement!).
